Chuei Ying Shuang is a young lady from a wealthy family which is renowned for their superior ink slab productions. One day, she picked up a blind-folded man, Shan Yu Mu, who prophesied that a great calamity will befall her seemingly peaceful family. Sure enough, a large fire soon burnt down their entire estate, killing Ying Shuang’s entire family, including her parents and little brother. Fingers were quickly pointed at the Shan Yu Mu, but things are not as straight-forward as it seems…

SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

This is a very early manhua which was released in 2005, and the art style very well reflects that. The manhua tells the tale of Ying Shuang, whom after countless tragedies, still persisted changing her fate and finding her own path in life. Through ups and downs, sadness and smiles, she eventually managed to escape from her original fate, and lead a life which she wants.

Ying Shuang is extremely adamant and about changing her fate to live the life that she wants. But, throughout the manhua, she had put in little actions to achieve her goals. Instead, the people around her always volunteered to help her accomplish them, while she continued to be the damsel in distress.

Some examples of people who sacrificed for her includes her sworn sister, Wan Xiang, a headstrong little girl, Xiao Yao, and a frivolous young man, Rong. One way or another, Ying Shuang’s over-optimism and lack of thought had resulted in her family members’ deaths, Wan Xiang’s demise, Xiao Yao to be almost drowned, and Rong to have his throat burnt with a poison and ended up a mute. However, even after witnessing how people who had helped her all ended up suffering, she still continued to implore the help of others without trying for solutions herself. This, I think, is a form of selfishness which Ying Shuang herself is unaware of.

In terms of plot, I feel that the story could have been narrated much better if the pace was slowed down. Too much was happening in each chapter. Important characters drop dead quickly one after another, so fast that I don’t even have time to soak in the emotions of each scene. There is much more potential for this manhua to be expanded on so that there is built-up towards each important events. This story could have been really good, if not for the rushed pace.

Overall, if you are after the yandere, I do recommend you to read this manhua, as the yandere is extremely prominent. After all, the entire tragedy faced by Ying Shuang is a result of this yandere.
