Motoi is a classmate of Koto Harukawa. He is the class representative of his class. When Koto is bullied, he would often step up for her, helping her through her ordeals.

SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

Initially, Motoi is bright and cheerful, always looking out for Koto. Despite Koto’s withdrawn nature, Motoi still tries hard to interact with her. Even when he confessed and Koto rejected him, he told her that it was fine to first start as friends.

However, he became unbearably jealous when he had noticed Koto’s relationship with her senior, Hiiragi Haru. He became unreasonable in his demands, thinking that Koto ought to go out with him since he helped her, which means Koto owes him. Upon discovering their secret hideout, he went in unannounced and messed up the entire place. He even tried to assault Koto at one point, despite Koto repeatedly rejecting him. In the end, he suffered serious injuries during his scuffle with Koto, and transferred school soon after, effectively leaving Koto’s life.

To be honest, Motoi’s screen time in the drama is so little that I could hardly find him even with a magnifying glass. The drama is short to begin with, and a huge bulk of time is dedicated to the main leads and their relationship. This leaves insufficient amount of time for Motoi’s character to truly develop through the drama. He was basically non-existent in the first part, simply popping up now and then to remind the viewers that there is still a second male lead who has had a crush on Koto since early on. Nothing was shown on how his affection for Koto came about or developed. Then, he suddenly went crazy, not taking Koto’s “no” as an answer, chasing her to the ends of Earth.

I do quite like Motoi however, as his actor did a good job portraying his character and emotions despite a devastating lack of screen time. As can be seen from his character photo, he is also very cute. What’s there not to like?
