Auri is Naala’s childhood friend and the new king of Rus. As per the former king’s wish, Naala was supposed to marry Auri. However, things made a drastic turn after the Nasla army attacked Rus.

SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

Naala grew up with Auri as his adopted sibling after the death of her mother. As childhood friends, the two were close with each other. Her adoptive father, former king of Rus had wished for Naala to marry Auri when they grew up. Even though Naala had always seen Auri as an older brother rather than a romantic partner, she had never thought to go against their impending marriage. However, things changed when the Nasla army attacked Rus to kidnap their women.

In an attempt to rescue her friends, Naala placed herself in danger and confronted the Nasla soldiers. Unfortunately, she was defeated by the Nasla king, Touya, and was brought back to Nasla along with the other women. This was where Auri lost contact with Naala.

Auri did not have a major role in the game. But it could be seen through out various routes in the game that he loved Naala and was heartbroken that she was taken away to Nasla. It was also mentioned throughout the game that Auri had made continuous efforts to get Naala back to Rus.

In one of Touya’s bad ending, Touya was killed by Auri in a battle. By then, Naala had fallen in love with Touya and was devastated by the scene. She was forcefully taken back to Rus by Auri. Following the original arrangement, the two married despite Naala’s reluctance.

Auri was aware of Naala’s feelings, and could tell that her heart was not with him. However, instead of letting her go, he doubled down and tried to sexually assault her. He thought that if Naala were to bear his child, she will then come around and return his love. He was willing to force his way to make things work no matter what. Unfortunately, Naala succumbed to her depression and began to hallucinate that Touya had came back for her, and ended up jumping of a cliff to reunite with him. Really, a tragic ending for everyone involved.

Personally, I really liked Auri – his character, his design, his personality. I would love to see a route where Auri successfully rescue Naala and they get to live happily ever after. Unfortunately, Auri does not have his own route. He only appears at the start of the game, and in some endings of other routes. Really, I feel that it is a waste of such a good character setting.
