Bako is a new transfer student into the protagonist’s school. He seems cheerful and outgoing. Although he is intelligent and does well in school, he often spaces out and appears scatterbrained.

SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

Bako met the protagonist when he entered the same class as her after he transferred into her school. They quickly hit it off with each other and Bako invited her for lunch. Through their daily interactions, Bako began to develop affection for her. (I legit don’t understand how that’s even possible within a few days. But OK.)

Anyways, Bako and his gang of friends soon decided to kidnap the protagonist to have her for themselves. If the protagonist declined to visit their place, Bako will visit the protagonist’s house at night to kidnap her instead. Not gonna lie, this scene was really scary. The thought that mayyyybe you can get away with it, just for Bako to jump scare you with that creepy smile and deranged eyes was quite chilling. He will then knock you out with drugs and bring you back to their base.

At their place, it was revealed that Bako loves art, drawing, and painting. There, he made the protagonist pose for him while he sketches her portrait on his canvas, enjoying the time they spent together.

Once, Bako asked the protagonist if he could play with her hair. She reluctantly agreed. As they chatted along, Bako revealed that he came from a broken family. His parents were divorced and his father was negligent. His sister abused him to vent her frustration, while he tried to justify her actions. So that’s why he turned out like that. Of course, every villain must have a sad backstory.

After their heart-to-heart talk, Bako became overly excited and began to turn violent against the protagonist. He tied her up and began to slash her back with a knife, intending to carve his name on her while admiring the “beautiful” scene he created as the protagonist bled from her wounds. WTF? Eventually, he calmed down one way or another before he could seriously injure the protagonist.

But of course, his violent nature cannot be stopped just like that. If the protagonist failed at escaping in his ending, Bako will capture her and put her to sleep. She would wake up feeling numb after being loaded with painkillers. Here, Bako decided that he would have to satisfy his urge to dissect her and see her insides. Then, he can accurately draw and paint them onto his canvas without missing an ounce of beauty the protagonist possess. Well, I guess that’s the end for the protagonist, I doubt she can survive that.

Overall, I don’t have too much of an impression on Bako. While he appeared quite often at the start of the game, his scenes became quite sparse after the protagonist got kidnapped. Other characters like Jin, Ryo, and Ren got way more screentime. Eventually, Bako lost my attention, so I don’t feel much for his character.

I think the author tried to go for an unhinged, violent, yet cool guy. Well, he certainly was scary during the kidnapping scene. Unfortunately, other than that, his role in the game and his backstory can be easily overlooked. His yandere type was also not my cup of tea, but this is just personal preference. Still, I think it would have been better if Bako’s character was developed more after the kidnapping so that he can be kept relevant to the plotline.
