SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

Seriously, I have no idea what the film producer was thinking to introduce this second male lead at the 20th out of 24 episodes of the show. It was as if they were about to wrap up the film before they remembered that they had spent huge bucks to hire Ye Chen Yang’s actor. So they quickly squeezed him into the show half-heartedly, then wrapped it up half-heartedly.
What were we supposed to feel for this second male lead that appeared so late into the game? Absolutely nothing. I almost forgot that Jiang Lili was supposed to have a childhood sweetheart whom she made a marriage vow with. This was such horrible planning on the scriptwriter’s part. If Ye Chen Yang was not going to value-add, then I rather they do away with him.
Anyway, Ye Chen Yang and Jiang Lili knew each other from an orphanage when they were little. The two of them got along really well. At one point, Ye Chen Yang proposed to Jiang Lili and she agreed. However, Ye Chen Yang soon moved out of the orphanage. The two of them lost contact ever since.
He reappeared when the orphanage that Jiang Lili and him used to go to was about to be demolished. The two of them paid the orphanage a visit at the same time. There, they quickly recognized each other and reunited.
Jiang Lili treated Ye Chen Yang as her friend. She thought that the marriage vow they made as kids were just a thing of the past. But Ye Chen Yang thought otherwise. He tried to spend more time with her and court her. When that failed, he resorted to blackmail.
He knew that Jiang Lili had been acting as Bi Xiao Ran within the company Le Meng. If things were to be exposed all of a sudden, it may not end well for all parties involved. To keep it a secret, Ye Chen Yang wanted Jiang Lili to live overseas with him, and forgo her current relationship with Lai Zheng Yi.
But what can a second male lead with only 4 episodes of screen time do?
To stop Jiang Lili falling into this blackmail, Le Meng quickly publicized the truth about the swap between Jiang Lili and Bi Xiao Ran. Amazingly, the public took the news pretty well, and now Ye Chen Yang had nothing to hold onto Jiang Lili anymore. In the end, Ye Chen Yang return overseas by himself. That’s it.
Again, I find the screentime given to this second male lead really too little. What kind of drama did they expect Ye Chen Yang to stir up with only 4 episodes to spare? There’s no character background, character development, or anything else. All I know is that the second male lead is quite good-looking. That’s all.
The yandere aspect of Ye Chen Yang came poof! out of thin air. It was so unexpected (in a bad way). I don’t even know why they included it in if its not going to amount to anything? I think the whole blackmailing thing finished within 1 episode!
In conclusion, if you are curious about the drama because of Ye Chen Yang, don’t be. But there’s another yandere in the show that is worth checking out. So I will leave it up to you.
