Lai Zheng Yi is the CEO of Le Meng, a film production company. He is firm and decisive in business, and warm and caring to his loved ones.

SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

Lai Zheng Yi had loved Jiang Lili since the beginning. They have met each other in an orphanage when they were kids, but Jiang Lili moved away. They lost touch afterwards.

Things changed when Jiang Lili’s twin sister Bi Xiao Ran entered Lai Zheng Yi’s company as a film producer. Due to their similar faces, Lai Zheng Yi initially mistook Bi Xiao Ran as Jiang Lili. After he found out that Bi Xiao Ran was not Jiang Lili, he did an extensive background search on Bi Xiao Ran to discover her twin sister.

Then, he begin to keep himself updated on Jiang Lili’s whereabouts and her everyday life. Having a bright and cheerful personality, Jiang Lili was a ball of sunshine for Lai Zheng Yi. She always managed to cheer him up with her cute antics whenever he was upset. Lai Zheng Yi even rented an apartment opposite hers so as to see her at close distance. However, he never directly approached her since he was unsure if what he felt was love. Eventually, Jiang Lili moved away, and Lai Zheng Yi never saw her since.

However, things changed when Bi Xiao Ran encountered a traffic accident and entered a coma. To fulfil Bi Xiao Ran’s wish, Jiang Lili acted as Bi Xiao Ran and signed an important film contract in her stead. During the process, Jiang Lili entered Lai Zheng Yi’s company, allowing them to meet once again. Through this encounter, Lai Zheng Yi understood his feelings for her. This time, he was not going to let her go.

Originally, Lai Zheng Yi and Bi Xiao Ran faked a relationship to the public to boost publicity for their company. As Jiang Lili continued to act as Bi Xiao Ran at her workplace, Lai Zheng Yi made use of this fact to make her move into his house. He also manipulated the situation and caused the board of directors to support this decision.

After Jiang Lili moved in, he began to woo her. He also created situations that to put Jiang Lili closer for him. For example, he would cut off her room’s light and electricity so that she would come to his room, or tell her horror stories to scare her into sleeping in the same bed as him. He also stressed that since they were posing as a couple now, she should not engage in any intimacy with other men. All these actions were portrayed in a funny and light-hearted manner. Nevertheless, it showed Lai Zheng Yi’s manipulative side.

Despite this, Lai Zheng Yi cared deeply for Jiang Lili. Whenever Jiang Lili faced problems, he would encourage her to work her way out, but would always be there to advise her or help her if she fails. He was always willing to talk things out with Jiang Lili, and quickly sorted out any misunderstandings when they occurred. He never did anything to intentionally incite Jiang Lili’s jealousy (although Jiang Lili got jealous anyway, for like 678563th times in the show). He was understanding of Jiang Lili, tolerated her nonsensical tantrums, and never got mad at her no matter what stupidity she committed. Seriously, he had buddha level of patience towards her… bruh I could never…

Anyways, eventually Jiang Lili fell for Lai Zheng Yi. However, Bi Xiao Ran knew about Lai Zheng Yi’s investigation on Jiang Lili. So when Bi Xiao Ran regained consciousness, she tried to keep Lai Zheng Yi away from Jiang Lili. First, she wanted Jiang Lili to move out of Lai Zheng Yi’s house. Next, she wanted the both of them to break up. Of course, Lai Zheng Yi was strongly against this. So he kept pulling tricks to make Jiang Lili stay with him. He would purposely make himself look pitiful, and make Jiang Lili think that he was incapable of living by himself by screwing up every single household chores. He was also very upfront to Bi Xiao Ran that he will not give Jiang Lili up.

Eventually, Bi Xiao Ran backed off. But here comes the second male lead Ye Chen Yang after 20 episodes (out of 24) into the show. His appearance threatened Lai Zheng Yi, so Lai Zheng Yi began to monitor Jiang Lili’s activities through reports and updates. Sometimes, he will even go to stalk them himself lols. Lai Zheng Yi also knew that Ye Chen Yang was looking for investors, so he purposely sabotaged him and turn all potential investors away from Ye Chen Yang. While Lai Zheng Yi partially did it for his company Le Meng, it was also undeniable that he did it due to his dislike for Ye Chen Yang.

In the end, the drama with Ye Chen Yang was resolved. Lai Zheng Yi also revealed all his stalkerish behavior in the past to Jiang Lili and admitted that he knew her from the start. Jiang Lili quickly forgave him, and they lived happily after.

I quite liked Lai Zheng Yi and this drama. Most of the time, I prefer drama which conveys yandos in a serious tone. I like the tense atmosphere and the moments when the yanderes’ love interests realizes what kind of people they are really facing. But once in awhile, a light-hearted drama with yanderes conveyed in a cute manner can be fun to watch as well. Of course, the show did not convey the gravity of the situation. And if anyone less handsome than our male lead pulled this stunt, everyone is gonna call the cops. But I am good at ignoring these facts. And by doing so, I was able to really enjoy the show.

I think Lai Zheng Yi was a really good yandere. From his manipulativeness to his demeanor, he was really fun to watch. I always looked forward to seeing what kind of absurd thing he will pull each time to get closer to our female lead. I liked his interaction with Jiang Lili as well as the people around him.

All in all, I do recommend you to watch this drama for Lai Zheng Yi. There is ample of yandere moments, just that they are conveyed in a cute and funny manner. If you can stomach this type of show and tolerate its unrealistic approach, then I do think that you should give this drama a go.
