SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

Hiyodori first met Lee when she was abandoned as a young puppy. Caught in a trap and hungry, Lee saved her and gave her food. Overwhelmed with gratitude, she made a deal with the devil to become human, in hopes that she can finally meet Lee and thank him in person.
The devil warned Hiyodori that the price to be paid would be the greed that accompanies her transformation. She was also not allowed to share her true identity with anyone, or she will perish. However, innocent little Hiyodori did not understand the significance of these conditions, and she happily agreed.
She later met Lee after being caught in a trap again and saved by him. With an injured foot, Lee brought Hiyodori in and gave her shelter. As Hiyodori enjoyed her time with Lee, she began to scratch her wounded foot to prevent it from healing so that she can stay with Lee longer.
When Lee mentioned he wanted cheese for bread but could not afford it, Hiyodori went to steal bread and cheese so that Lee would be happy. When she saw a young girl named Alcott wearing a hair pin, she also stole the custom-made pin and wore it so that she can also look cute. Hiyodori insisted that she never stole anything, and that somebody else must have left the food in front of their house as Lee was such a kind soul. Eventually, she began stealing so much that even Lee began to feel unsettled. However, Hiyodori would never admit to her crimes.
Later, Lee admitted that he would love to have his legs healed somehow. Until now, he had always relied on a walking stick. It was an impossible wish. But Hiyodori, eager to make Lee happy, went to the devil again to make a deal to heal Lee’s legs. The devil agreed. This time, the price would be to have the punishments of Hiyodori’s crime relinquished. Hiyodori did not understand how such a condition can be considered a price to pay. Nevertheless, she happily accepted it.
Soon, actual meaning of the condition became clear. Hiyodori did not need to bear the crime of stealing because Alcott, the daughter of the storeowner where Hiyodori stole from, claimed that she had been the one sending food to them all along. Lee was seemingly touched by this, and Hiyodori was filled with jealousy.

As Alcott and Lee grew closer, Hiyodori could no longer bear to witness it. She even entertained the thought of destroying both of Lee’s feet so that he would have to rely on her. However, she came to her senses in the last minute and stabs her own leg instead.
Ultimately, Hiyodori realized her blackening heart, and decided to be content with what she originally asked for. In the beginning, her simple wish was to thank Lee in person; nothing more. As such, Hiyodori confessed the truth about her origin, and admitted to Lee that she was originally the dog that Lee had saved. After thanking Lee in person and thereby fulfilling her wish, Hiyodori perished. Although she had wavered along the way, she ultimately remained pure and true to herself.
Upon seeing this ending, the devil expressed his disappointment. Though, judging from Lee’s reaction at Hiyodori’s parting, the devil hints that instead of Hiyodori, the one succumbing to evil may be Lee.

Although Hiyodori can be really scary at times, I think that deep down she is still pure and innocent at heart. While temporary greed and love clouded her judgement, Hiyodori had always wanted the best for Lee. Although she can be selfish at times, such as stealing a hairpin for herself, or prolonging her injury to stay with Lee longer, she never understood the severity of her actions. Even when she harbored the thoughts of injuring Lee so that he will stay with her, she eventually switched to hurting herself when she realized what she had almost done. Finally, when she realized that her heart had strayed, she corrected herself and ended things before she could hurt anyone.
To me, Hiyodori is an interesting yandere as there is rarely a yandere as innocent as her. I genuinely pitied her when she faced the realization of her disturbing thoughts and actions. Although her story was short, it was bittersweet and quite memorable. Overall, she is a well-written character.
