Abyss is a game character created by Wang Zi Xin that had developed self-awareness. While he can be scary and merciless, there is an innately kind and good-natured side to him.

SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

Abyss first met Wang Zi Xin in a really weird manner. Basically, as a game character created by Wang Zi Xin, he got transported into the real world and went on to seek out Wang Zi Xin to kill him, thinking that that will end his own miserable life as well.

After several time loops and an abrupt kiss from Wang Zi Xin, they were both sent into a parallel game universe where Abyss just got released from the laboratory he grew up in. Here, Abyss is simply a young and naïve teenager with no recollection of the original timeline he came from. This is also where they actually got to know each other, restarting from a clean slate.

Abyss is an artificial human created by a team of scientist in the laboratories. They created him such that he possessed superhuman abilities. However, despite him gaining self-awareness, the scientists never treated him as a human, but rather a revolting monster. Abyss never experienced care nor concern from anyone; he was treated as a dangerous test subject.

In the game world, Wang Zi Xin got contacted by the in-game system, telling him that he must help Abyss clear the death game they were about to enter in order to return to the real world. Due to this, Wang Zi Xin approached Abyss and treated him kindly. He taught Abyss how to act human, and treated him as a normal person even though the others treated Abyss like he was a monster. Due to this, Abyss gradually opened up to Wang Zi Xin.

As the death game goes on, participants quickly realized the monstrous abilities Abyss possessed, and were quick to shun him. Again, Wang Zi Xin was the only person to act kindly towards Abyss. As such, Abyss, with a child-like mind, became dependent on him. Likewise, Wang Zi Xin also began to care for Abyss genuinely.

Due to the 7 year age gap between the two, Wang Zi Xin treated Abyss like his son. However, unbeknownst to Wang Zi Xin, Abyss’s initial platonic affection for him was gradually turning romantic. Overtime, Abyss became possessive over Wang Zi Xin. He easily got jealous when Wang Zi Xin acts friendly with others, especially Yuan Yuan, a young girl they had met in the death game.

As Wang Zi Xin kept disappearing and reappearing after each crucial segment of the death game, Abyss quickly grew suspicious and questioned him, which led him to find out that Wang Zi Xin was not from his world. This knowledge immediately gave Abyss the desire to go to Wang Zi Xin’s world with him, as Wang Zi Xin was the only person that mattered to Abyss.

Unfortunately, with each crucial segment of the game, Abyss started to see dreams and visions of his previous life in the parallel world where he was alone. He saw how the death game turned out without Wang Zi Xin, the undeserved hatred and resentment he received from the rest, and the suffering he went through. These visions drove him to “blacken” anyway, as he now sees the cruelty of humans ever more clearly. All these also made him more obsessed with Wang Zi Xin, as Abyss now saw him as the sole reason that made his current life so much better.

Abyss knew that Wang Zi Xin adored the innocent, child-like part of him. So even as he became more twisted as he regains his memories from the parallel universe, he pretended to be innocent and pure.

However, on occasions where Abyss senses danger, or when Wang Zi Xin is in trouble, he may let his pure façade slip, revealing his malicious side. As long as Wang Zi Xin wishes it, Abyss is willing to do anything and kill anyone. Other than Wang Zi Xin, Abyss did not care about anyone else.

Luckily, Wang Zi Xin did not exploit this side of Abyss. He tried to prevent Abyss from making enemies, and encouraged him to befriend others. Although Wang Zi Xin’s effort did little to make Abyss more sociable towards others, his constant care and sacrifice for Abyss ultimately prevented Abyss from completely blackening.

After the death game, Wang Zi Xin had to returned to his own world, leaving Abyss behind. This severely impacted Abyss, and he swore to enter Wang Zi Xin’s world to reunite with him. The journey was not easy, as he had to enter multiple dimensions and complete the tasks in each of them before gaining the rights to permanently stay with Wang Zi Xin.

Luckily, after a short reunion with Wang Zi Xin in the real world, Wang Zi Xin followed Abyss in his subsequent missions, helping him out and caring for him throughout their journey. It was also through these times that Wang Zi Xin began to reciprocate Abyss’s feelings.

Eventually, Wang Zi Xin discovered that Abyss may have a darker side to his personality. Nevertheless, he still loved Abyss the way he is, as Abyss had always genuinely loved and looked out for him. Ultimately, they completed the missions successfully and returned to the real world. There, they can finally live out the rest of their lives together, no longer separated.

I really like Abyss. Man, if only I have my own Abyss.

Although Abyss supposedly “blackens” as the story progresses, the story showcased so much of his cute persona and interactions with Wang Zi Xin, that his “blackening” dulls in comparison. While Abyss can be merciless to strangers, he cares deeply for the one that matters to him.

Towards Wang Zi Xin, he acts like a cute puppy, constantly seeking his attention and affection. It was really cute when Abyss was so clingy towards Wang Zi Xin, he was even willing to give up delicious food just for more hugs with Wang Zi Xin. And Abyss was such a foodie too.

Obviously, Abyss was obsessed with Wang Zi Xin. His life revolves around him, and he is willing to do anything for Wang Zi Xin, even if it costs his own life. Abyss will never allow any harm to come to Wang Zi Xin. He values Wang Zi Xin’s life more than his own.

While Abyss can be cruel, it was also understandable why he turned out that way, and I dare say Abyss was already very kind towards others, given the treatment he had received. In his previous life in the parallel world, he tried to prevent himself from hurting others, and even rescued the person trying to have him killed, hoping to gain a little bit of kindness in return. It was clear Abyss was innately kind, despite the harsh environment he lived in.

It was really enjoyable to see how Abyss grew closer and open up to Wang Zi Xin. As Wang Zi Xin teaches Abyss about love and affection, he unknowingly made Abyss realize his feelings for him. It was a treat to see Abyss becoming more possessive over Wang Zi Xin too.

I recommend you to check this manhua out. You will probably find Abyss as adorable as I did. And the story is sure to grip you, along with the romance between Abyss and Wang Zi Xin.
