May is a young girl working as a barmaid, saving up for her dreams of enrolling in the Hero’s Academy. By luck, a group of five heroes entered the bar May works at. Due to her uncanny appearance which entirely resembled their just deceased ex-member April, the heroes asked for May to accompany them on their trip to see the king, since they did not want to reveal the death of April to the king. Little did May know, she will also be accompanying them on their journey to fight Evil.
SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

April was a Fool is a short visual novel, depicting the story of May and her adventure with 5 heroes as they journey to save the world from Evil. There are a total of 5 love interests, 4 males and 1 female. Each route can be completed in less than an hour, and there are a total of 11 endings to be collected.
Even though the game is quite short, much effort was made to develop the plot and the characters, which I think is very commendable. And not to mention, this is a free game BTW.
Although the art style and character sprites were cute and quirky, the story can be quite heavy. The five heroes who May interacted with each had their own worries. Erwin troubles over his impulsive tendencies to steal, Kent struggles with his violent side, Gabby and Blake constantly fought as siblings due to misunderstandings, and Gunn hopes the team can be united through his efforts.
Each of the hero members had deep bonds with the deceased member April; she was indispensable to them. But now, they have May. With her around, they learn to reconcile their past, and move onwards as a team again.

I remembered playing this game years ago when it was newly released, and I quite enjoyed it. The cast was diverse and each had their unique personality. The five available routes were significantly different from each other, despite being such a short game. For a free game, I would say it is of decent quality.
If I were to nitpick though, I think the music can be improved, as it can be quite trippy sometimes LOL. More choices which affects the storyline will be good too, since I find the player’s opportunity for input to be slightly lacking. But then again, it’s a very short game, so this aspect could be very well compromised.
Nevertheless, I recommend you to try this game if you don’t mind the art style. It is only a few hours, and is good entertainment without commitment.
