The younger twin brother of the infamous “suicide lovers” pair in town. He behaves in a hostile manner to outsiders, and is suspected of the murder of his own grandmother.

The story begins with the murder of the twins’ grandmother, as Hayate and Kaoru attended the funeral under the watchful eyes of the townsfolk. Not only did Hayate not display any sadness at the loss, he even expressed joy that the “old hag is gone”.

Hayate is incredibly protective and possessive of Kaoru, and easily resorts to violence when Kaoru is concerned. This can be seen by how he crashed their schoolmate’s desk, and injured the bully in the process upon hearing her verbally abusing Kaoru. He also smashed Hiromi Takatou’s head against the window when he saw him getting too close to Kaoru, warning him not to go near her.

Hayate is also very vocal and obvious about his feelings for Kaoru. Many times, he had told Kaoru directly that he would not let anyone else have Kaoru. He also did not allow Kaoru to talk, or even make eye contact with Hiromi, the classmate who showed interest in her.

While the people around them disapproved of their relationship, Hayate and Kaoru insisted on being together. In the end, things turn out the way they wanted, and it is implied that they always stayed together from then on.

I feel that Hayate is a very typical yandere character, who says and does things that an average yandere does. Things are pretty much expected, so there’s not much anticipation or suspense on his side.

However, I do recommend you checking out this short yandere manga since it is a quick one-shot, and the plot twist can be quite interesting if you can look past the love-between-siblings thing.
