Li Yue is a character from the Qin Dynasty story arc. He is the brother of general Li Xin, as well as the childhood friend of Ming Yan.

SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

Li Yue had love Ming Yan since young. Unfortunately, so does his older brother, Li Xin.

Once, Li Yue spent all his effort to manually carve a jade horse ornament for Ming Yan, knowing that she adores the animal. In the process, he suffered several cuts on his hand, which later turned into permanent scars.

Li Yue had intended to give Ming Yan the ornament as her birthday gift, but found it to be missing. He frantically searched high and low in his abode, only for Li Xin to come in and nonchalantly inform Li Yue that he gave it to Ming Yan as a birthday present, since he knew that Ming Yan loved horses as well.

Hatred formed in Li Yue’s heart; all the effort and pain he endured in making the ornament, only for Li Xin to give it to Ming Yan. In turn, Ming Yan thought that Li Xin was the person to have painstakingly carved the ornament. She was incredibly touched, and vowed to marry no one else but Li Xin in her lifetime.

Li Yue thought that the horse ornament was the sole reason for Ming Yan’s love for Li Xin. He believed that should he be the one to have given it to Ming Yan, she would have been in love with him instead.

What Li Yue did not realize, was that Ming Yan had always looked up to Li Xin, and would have loved him regardless of the horse ornament. However, even when Ming Yan told Li Yue so, Li Yue refused to believe it, thinking that Ming Yan’s love was wrongfully stolen away from him by his brother.

Once, in the heat of the moment when Ming Yan rejected Li Yue, he tried to assault her. Shocked by his attempt, Ming Yan tried to evacuate the scene immediately. However, Li Yue stopped her, threatening to end his life should Ming Yan not forgive him. Upon this, the soft-hearted Ming Yan caved in, and Li Yue told her that he would leave in seven days, never coming back to harass her again.

That, however, was a lie. Not only did Li Yue not leave, he tricked Ming Yan to an abode when he knocked her out with a drug. He then brought her to an underground dungeon, have her changed into a bridal gown, while he himself wore the groom’s attire.

Li Yue rested Ming Yan in a bed, which was decorated with carved horses that hanged all over it. While waiting for her to awaken, he proceeded to carve even more horses, believing that she would be happy for it.

Upon Ming Yan’s awakening, Li Yue offered to teach Ming Yan horse-riding everyday after their marriage. When she refused, Li Yue became furious. He attempted to assault her once again, as he believed that if she was sullied, Li Xin would no longer want her.

Luckily, this attempt was stopped, and Li Yue was later punished for his actions. Even so, he was not repentant. Till the end, he felt that he was not in the fault, and that he only did what he had to for his love.

As a minor yandere featured in the first time travel arc of The Journey, Li Yue comes off as nothing short of creepy for me. Unfortunately for me, this character was not one bit likable, and not one bit romantic.

Nevertheless, even if Li Yue is not worth watching the show for, there are many other awesome yandere and obsessive characters in the drama. Also, the drama is incredibly funny. So, I definitely recommend watching the show, and treat Li Yue as a (not so interesting) bonus!
