SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

It was revealed that the relationship between Si Yin and Ye Yin dated all the way back to their past life. In their past life, they belonged to the celestial world.
In the celestial world, Si Yin was Sha Ka, the celestial king’s son. Back then, him and Si Ling (Ya Long’s past life) was the best brothers and comrade. As a gift, Sha Ka used a part of his own ribs, and attempted to create a perfect woman for Si Ling. This woman would be Yi Sha, Ye Yin’s past life.
Once Yi Sha turns 500 years old and becomes an adult, he had intended to give her to Si Ling as a perfect woman that can be a match for him. Yi Sha turned out to be imperfect, but Sha Ka ended up falling for her instead.
Sha Ka grew overbearing, possessive, and cruel. He would force Yi Sha to stay by his side and marry him, even when he knew Yi Sha loved Si Ling instead. Yi Sha tried to run away several times, but will be brought back by him. When Yi Sha refused to eat, Sha Ka even attempted to punish the servants who attended to Yi Sha, by ordering for their celestial wings to be ripped off. He only stopped when Yi Sha forced herself to eat. While preparing for their marriage, he also threatened that should any of Yi Sha’s favorite flower not bloom on their wedding day, the servants will end up as the flowers’ fertilizer.
He turned back on his words to Si Ling, and waged a war with Si Ling’s clan in order to keep Yi Sha by his side. Unfortunately, Si Ling had also became deeply enamored with Yi Sha, and the war between the two raged with full force.

Ignoring the awful CGI, the celestial king returned later and found out about the chaos which ensued. For initiating war and causing unrest in the realm, Sha Ka was sent as a half-celestial being to the human world to experience mortal sufferings. As punishment, he would not be able to reveal his feelings for Yi Sha before he fully redeem himself. Every so often, he would also have to bear excruciating physical pain.
Meanwhile, Si Ling would be condemned to eternal darkness as a vampire in the mortal realm for attempting to use a forbidden instrument of the celestial realm to harm Sha Ka. And Yi Sha would also be sent to the mortal realm for unknowingly trying to poison Sha Ka with said forbidden tool.
As all of them accepted their punishment and were sent to the mortal world, Sha Ka, now as Si Yin, sought out Yi Sha who had lost her memory of their past life. He took in little Yi Sha, who is now Ye Yin in the mortal world, stayed by her side and cared for her. They soon formed a close master-disciple bond as they lived peacefully together in a teahouse.
As Ye Yin turned eighteen, Si Yin, who is often as addressed as Shifu by Ye Yin, begin to assign Ye Yin time-travel missions; she is to prevent tragic events from happening to the clients who had visited them in the teahouse, and rewrite their past life.

Throughout the different missions, Ye Yin will always encounter a character in that timeline that looked exactly like Si Yin. In Qin Dynasty, Si Yin was the Qin emperor. In Shang Dynasty, he was a wizard. In Tang Dynasty, he was a magician. And in Ming Dynasty, Si Yin was a member of the government’s secret police force.
Each time, said character will always end up falling deep in love with her. For example, after Ye Yin was gone, the Qin emperor searched tirelessly for the elixir of life, hoping to live long enough to meet Ye Yin again. In Shang Dynasty, as a wizard, he summoned endless rain and storm to prevent Ye Yin from leaving, after Ye Yin confessed that she had to return to her original world when the storm ends. All these characters are Si Yin’s reincarnations from the different timelines. And according to him, it happened because they were fated.
Back in the modern world, Ya Long, Si Ling’s reincarnation had been closing up on Ye Yin’s location, and had almost managed to find her. To prevent them from reuniting, Si Yin created an entire alternate dimension for their teahouse so that Ya Long can never find her. He also kept it a secret from Ye Yin.
Whenever Ye Yin came back from her missions and told Si Yin about her journeys and Ya Long, Si Yin will always warn her not to get too close to Ya Long, and that they are two different species: vampire and human.
When Ya Long found out about Ye Yin’s true location anyway, Si Yin tried to trap Ya Long in a different dimension, in eternal darkness forever. Again, he kept it from Ye Yin, and lied that Ya Long had finally found salvation, and had went on to reincarnate into a human in his next life. Si Yin would try anything to keep Ya Long out of Ye Yin’s life.

Ignoring more of these ultra terrible CGIs, Ya Long managed to break out of his trap, and the two fought ferociously after Ya Long gained back his past life’s memories and remembered the feud between him and Sha Ka. In the end, none of them emerged victorious, and succumbed to their injuries. However, it is implied that Shifu managed to reincarnate later, after Ye Yin went back to their past and tried to fix all of their wrongdoings.
I have read reviews of The Journey, and 99% of the reviewers hated Si Yin. For one, in the current life as Si Yin, he took care of Ye Yin since she was a little girl. So, this master (Shifu) seems like a pedo here. Secondly, he lied countless times to Ye Yin, and took advantage of her innocence and kindness to keep her by his side. Evidently, he is a selfish, disgusting, and arrogant prick. I agree.
However, ignoring the ‘Ye Yin’ is a little girl part (which is quite easy for me, since Ye Yin is known to be 500 years old in her celestial past life, and Si Yin’s age is entirely unknown, and they have so many different lifetimes that I am confused as to which of their ages at which lifetime am I supposed to consider), I would say Si Yin is a pretty successful yandere.
Si Yin was ready to do anything to have Ye Yin for himself. As Sha Ka, he could betray his trusted brother Si Ling. He could resort to the extremes, wage wars, and threaten Si Ling’s entire clan for Yi Sha. He would attempt to make Yi Sha his bride against her will. And as Si Yin, he would lie to Ye Yin, and trap her in an entirely different dimension from everyone else to prevent Ya Long and Ye Yin from reuniting.
Although Si Yin is a jerk, whom should be unequivocally condemned in real life, he is a great yandere character in this drama. I dare say, he is one of the most yandere of all yanderes I can find in a Chinese drama for awhile now. And although the drama’s CGIs and costumes were so poorly done and utterly hilarious, I do recommend you trying it out if you can ignore the questionable parts of Si Yin and embrace the yandere moments (although yandere in itself is questionable).
