SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

While it is unclear when exactly Yuri had fell in love with the protagonist, or Risa Minasaki, he later confessed that he might had became interested in her since the beginning. Although some of the motives of his actions are questionable, it is clear that many of them are driven by his interest in Risa.

Since the start, Yuri had planned to have a marriage to stabilize his ascension to the throne. After noticing Risa, he researched on her and decided to make her the candidate.

During a ball, Yuri met briefly with Risa. As Risa made the exit and proceed to leave the country via airport later on, she was stopped by an immigration agent. There, she met Yuri once more. Yuri purposely manipulated Risa and altered the situation such that she would agree to act as his girlfriend temporarily. Once accomplished, the immediately declared to the pubic that Risa was to be his fiancé, leaving no room for Risa to disagree.

While Risa remained hesitant, Yuri eased her into her circumstances by suggesting the marriage to be temporary. When asked how long will the contract last, Yuri pondered awhile before eerily declaring if he should just keep her in his country as his wife forever.

Yuri probably fell deeper in love with Risa when she braved a gunshot wound to protect him. The concern and understanding shown by Risa towards Yuri touched him, as he thought like no one cared about him like how Risa did.

When they got attacked once more, Yuri was furious at the attacker, as they had injured Risa before. To seek vengeance for Risa, Yuri shot the attacker without hesitation. His manner was cold and ruthless, and he was smiling cruelly as he wounded the perpetuator.

Later, Yuri confessed to Risa that he bribed Flanelia’s newest immigration agent to stop her from returning back to her home country the last time at the ball. It was all a ploy by him to trap her in Rossiyskaya and push her to marry him.

Upon knowing the truth, Yelisei, the second prince who also loved Risa, wanted to take her away from Yuri. In turn, Yuri threatened that should Risa leave, her family, workplace, and all the things important to her will be jeopardized. Yuri went as far as to threaten Risa with his own brother, Yelisei’s welfare, when Risa did not want to go with him. Due to his threats, Risa finally caved in and went along with him.

To prevent Risa from escaping, and Yelisei from finding her, he locked her up in an unassuming room, previously occupied by a servant. He also could read Risa very well, knew when she will attempt her escape, and convinced her she had nowhere to run to when she finally tried.

As the battle between Yuri and Yelisei escalates, Yuri repeatedly asked if Risa would choose between the two of them. And when Risa could not give a prompt reply, he decided to make it such that she would only be able to choose him: by killing Yelisei.

Yuri brought Risa to where Yelisei was residing, with the apparent intention to kill Yelisei. However, he later dropped to gun and egged Yelisei to shoot him instead. As the foolish Yelisei did, but curiously aimed for Risa instead, he threw between them to shield Risa from the gunshot.

From his action, Yuri finally acknowledged that he had been conflicted about his feelings for Risa. He had always been unfeeling, and did not realize that what he felt for Risa was true love all along. Through this incident, and the fact that he was able to sacrifice himself to protect Risa, he had finally came to realize he was capable of love, and had likely loved Risa since the start.

The two ended up together happily. As Yuri reproposed to Risa again. This time, he was 100% genuine, without the throne in the back of his mind. Risa, who had slowly grew to love him, accepted the offer. In the main story, they married, and Risa became his queen.

Honestly, I have no idea what I had wrote at this point. The story is so confusing, the intentions of the characters, especially Yuri’s changed from one point to the other. As the story is told in segments, and due to the 5 story ticket system of the game, the story still seemed to flow, and I can blame it on my poor memory should any events seemed to be illogical.

However, as I kept track of the story and attempted to write down what exactly went on, I found this plot to be utterly broken! At one point Yuri claimed he fell in love at first sight with Risa at the ball, then another he claimed he married her for the throne. The next moment he is suddenly possessive of her again, and then the next he claim he actually don’t know how he felt.

The last bit of the plot was that he wanted to kill Yelisei to claim Risa for herself. But the next moment, he suddenly wanted Yelisei to shoot him. As if the plot is not ridiculous enough, the always gentle and peaceful Yelisei actually wanted to shoot! And to make things more ridiculous, he now wanted to shoot Risa, which he claimed to love! Gosh, I can’t even comprehend this turn of events even if I exhaust all of my brain cells.

Regardless of my rant, many things that Yuri did indeed checked the box of being a yandere. From my rough understanding of the plot, Yuri had unconsciously tried to keep Risa for himself, and was capable of violence and threats to achieve his means.

He was one of the earlier mobile game yandere which I had encountered, and thought that I should give a honorary review for him regardless. So, there you go.
