Yu Qi Ling is a bright and energetic girl who was brought up by her adoptive mother in the countryside. Being highly skilled in martial arts, Yu Qi Ling fearlessly set off towards the capital upon learning that her adoptive mother’s biological son, Jin Yuan Bao, resides there as the wealthy heir of Jin family. On her quest to sought out Jin Yuan Bao and bring him back to her adoptive mother, Yu Qi Ling ended up marrying into Jin family as Jin Yuan Bao’s wife in place of the original bride, Jiang Xiao Xuan. While the couple bickers endlessly in the beginning, they slowly began to fall for each other. But, how long can a marriage built on false identities last?

SPOILERS AND PERSONAL OPINION

Perfect Couple is a 45-episode drama, which focuses on the romance between two pair of couples: Jin Yuan Bao with Yu Qi Ling, and Gu Chang Feng and Jiang Xiao Xuan.

Both Yu Qi Ling and Jin Yuan Bao have false identities in different ways, and this pose to be a major problem to their relationship. Yu Qi Ling posed as Jiang Xiao Xuan, faking her identity as a well-educated and talented lady from the affluent Jiang family. Unbeknownst to Jin Yuan Bao, his biological mother was in fact a concubine who was casted away from Jin family after his birth. As concubines are of low status compared to the official wife of the house, Jin Yuan Bao may very well be removed as the heir of the family should this secret be revealed.

Luckily, through the strength of their relationship, and the collective efforts of their close ones, Jin Yuan Bao, Yu Qi Ling and their family was able to overcome the odds and live out a happy ending.

The drama started out very well. For the first 20 episodes or so, the drama was mostly lighthearted and incredibly funny. It was satisfying to watch the cute interactions between the 2 main couples. It is also not often that a drama as such features a physically strong female lead who always come to the rescue of a male lead in distress.

However, halfway through the show, all the characters went full retard. Misunderstandings after misunderstandings occurs, and all these could have been prevented if they would just communicate slightly more among themselves, and think through the situations a bit more. The supposedly sharp Yu Qi Ling, and Jin Yuan Bao, who is known as the province’s best detective, just couldn’t pick any clues on the obviously very suspicious Liu Wen Zhao.

Yu Qi Ling was originally portrayed to be so highly-skilled in martial arts that even Liu Wen Zhao had trouble fighting against. Yet towards the end of the show, she can be easily pinned down by mere house servants. All of a sudden, the strong and powerful girl was reduced to a weak and helpless damsel, who can only watch as sufferings unfold on her closest ones.

The directors have probably tried to drag on the show. Throughout the drama, Yu Qi Ling and Jin Yuan Bao fought and reunite, fought and reunite, and fought and… you get the point. Each time, they fight over the most meaningless reasons, but still manage to drive it to a seemingly irreversible point, only to resolve it a few moments later.

Even in the last episode, when they became officially married with their real identities, Yu Qi Ling still decided to runaway from home for god knows what reason. This event took up the last 15 min of the drama, before Yu Qi Ling finally returned, called it the day, and the drama ends.

???

As such, for a lighthearted and enjoyable experience, I recommend watching only up till around episode 20. This will save yourself from impending confusion arising from the upcoming illogical events. Bits and pieces of yandere moments will still be scattered here and there, though not too obviously. For the really yandere moments, you will have to brave through around episode 40 to 42. A salute to you, if you choose to pursue this endeavor.
